BEACH FOR KIDS: West Dennis Beach -- Take School St. off of Rte 28 in W. Dennis. The area has a playground, snack bars and restrooms. On the north side, try Corporation or Mayflower beaches, both have playgrounds and snack bars.
FISHING SPOT: Scargo Lake off Rte 6A is a good spot for small mouth bass and trout. No fishing license required for kids age 14 and under. Over 15, obtain licenses at the Dennis town office; call the Town Clerk M-F 8:30-4:30, 508-760-6112
BIKING TRAIL: Cape Cod Rail Trail. On Rte 134 across from Hall Oil Company in South Dennis. . . look for the brown and gold sign. Good parking area. See “Suggested Activities” in this issue for more about the Bike Trail.
HIKING TRAIL: Johnny Kelly Recreation Area. Located off Access Rd. in S. Dennis opposite the Highway Garage. A circular route of about 1.25 miles, with a level, sandy surface. There is ample parking, and the trail is well marked.
PICNIC SPOT: Swan Pond Overlook. Off Rte 134, take Upper County Road to Searsville Road, turn left on Center St. and the spot is about 1/2 mile on the right overlooking Swan Pond. Picnic tables located along the coastal bank.
PLAYGROUNDS: Two good ones are located on Corporation Rd. at Corporation Beach in East Dennis and at West Dennis Beach.
CAPE COD BAY ADVENTURES: Here’s a great opportunity to literally immerse your family in the best of Cape Cod Bay. After a short boat ride on board the beautiful “Venture Inn 2,” you will reach a special activities location to have a blast on water trampolines, banana boat rides, and brand new Yamaha Waverunners. 1736 JOSIAH DENNIS MANSE MUSEUM AND OLD WEST SCHOOLHOUSE: 77 Nobscusset Rd., Dennis Village. The saltbox home of Reverend Dennis, for whom the town was named. An interpretive museum of Colonial living with costumed docents. 1700’s furnishings, children’s room and programs -- spinning and weaving. Featuring a Dennis maritime wing with 300 years of maritime history. The 1745 one-room schoolhouse is on the grounds. Open Tues., 10am-noon; Thurs., 2-4pm. 508-385-2232.
