CAPE COD TRAVEL WEBGUIDE
SANDWICH & BOURNE
HOTELS, MOTELS & RESORTS

SANDWICH
Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod and has retained the feel of a true "Cape" village. Sitting by Mill Pond, you may notice the spire of the First Church of Christ, designed by Christopher Wren, and imagine yourself back in the early 1800's when the town was famous for the production of beautiful stained glass. Glass pieces made during this era are valued by collectors and imitated by today's artisans.

BOURNE
Divided in half by the Cape Cod Canal, the world's widest sea-level canal, Bourne is spanned by both the Bourne & the Sagamore Bridges and is the first town any visitor sees when driving onto Cape Cod. A stop to tour its villages of Bournedale, Buzzards Bay, Cataumet, Gray Gables, Monument Beach, Pocasset, Sagamore & Sagamore Beach is surely worthwhile. Bourne was incorporated in 1884 after being originally settled about 1640. It is historically notable as the site of the Pilgrim's Aptuxcet Trading Post, built to encourage trade with native Americans and the Dutch, who lived to the south. Today, the canal continues to be the main focus of the town, but Bourne's summer tourism is an important part of the economy.
